Phillyfaces previously announced that in conjunction with the Ridgewood blog we have been chosen to work on the King of Con docuseries filming in Northern New Jersey later this year. Clifton NJ, the 88-year-old dilapidated Route 3 Bridge will finally be renovated to the tune of $143 million, the Department of Transportation announced last week.
Construction begins in two years…forty years after one of our local celebrities, Thomas “The King of Con” Giacomaro, busted up the guardrails during a mysterious, high-speed chase that made the newspapers.
The businessman tells the tale in his memoir, The King of Con, which is in pre-production for a docuseries to be filmed in North Jersey this year.

It happened in the mid-Eighties: Giacomaro had just downed shots of Louis XIII cognac at a restaurant in Cedar Grove when he got onto the highway bound for Passaic.
“That’s when I noticed a white van on my tail,” he recalls.
The van pulled up next to him, the side-panel door swung open, and three guys started shooting.
What guys, you ask?
“It could have been any number of mob guys,” he says.
Giacomaro swerved to make the exit for Passaic but the van crashed into his Mercedes 560SEL from behind, “sending me into a killer spin like an Indy race-car driver.”
He flew off the ramp, ripped through the guardrail, sailed into the air, and nosedived into the water, sinking to the bottom.
Within minutes the car filled with water. Luckily, he remembered a .357 Magnum hidden under the passenger seat! He shot his way out through a window and swam to the surface to find a crowd lined up on the ramp applauding.
